2015 Cobra Jet Mustang Rumors
With the reveal of the 2015 Ford Mustang back on December 5th and the Performance Racing Industry Show last week, a lot of questions have been raised about the 2015 Cobra Jet drag race program and it looks like Ford will be offering a solid rear axle Mustang. The 2015 Cobra Jet Mustang rumors are all about a Ford Racing representative at the Performance Racing Industry Show allegedly told Gas2 (via Mustangs Daily) that the company is planning to offer a 2015 Mustang "body in white" with a separate part number in the Ford racing catalog for a nine-inch solid rear axle. 2015 Mustang Faster Than A Boss 302
From Automotive.com
The more we hear about the 2015 Ford Mustang, the better and better it gets. Now, we have one more for all of you: The V-8-powered 2015 Mustang GT with the Track Pack will be even quicker and better-performing than the vaunted Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca edition. According to Ford Mustang communications representative Brian Cotter, the new muscle car is being aimed at exceeding the lofty benchmarks set by the stripped-out, pared-down Boss 302 Laguna Seca, a model that doesn't even come with a back seat. Although Cotter wasn't at liberty to give us specific times and figures, he said that the car would sweep the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca bends at a time that would come under its predecessor's blistering 1:39.5 pace. As Cotter told us, that time was quicker than the just-discontinued 2007 to 2013 BMW M3 around the same track, as it packed fewer pounds and a 444-horsepower, 5.0-liter V-8 engine under hood. The 2015 Ford Mustang has been estimated to produce in excess of 420 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque from its 5.0-liter "Coyote" V-8. It will also be available with a 3.7-liter V-6 and a new 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, both of which will come in with more than 300 horsepower. All cars should come in right around 200 pounds lighter than their predecessors and will have a standard independent rear suspension across the lineup for the first time ever. Cotter said he couldn't confirm what would come in the Track Pack for the 2015 Ford Mustang as of yet because it hadn't been finalized. Expected to be in there are 15-inch front brake rotors, a rear limited-slip differential for more optimized traction, and sticker tires, among other features. Cotter said that Ford didn't aim directly at the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger this time around when designing the 2015 Ford Mustang, but instead the company aimed for the BMW M3 and Porsche 911 for performance, luxury, and refinement benchmarks. Lofty, if you ask us, but we sat in a prototype convertible yesterday and can report that it has the nicest interior of any product wearing a Ford badge, comfortable and ergonomic all around. Really, the last thing that needs to be said, then, is we can't wait to drive it. Look for our First Drive of the new pony car around midway through 2014, with cars being delivered by the third quarter of 2014.

Boss 302 Wins At 25hrs Of ThunderHill
The Luxury Don’t Crash Racing Team, with support from Winding Road Racing, recently scored a first-place finish in the E0 class at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill event, running in the Winding Road Racing Ford Mustang BOSS 302S. Not only did they score the class win, they also finished 7th overall in a huge field of 63 cars.
In the process, the BOSS 302S Mustang beat out a pair of E0-class BMW entries and a number of other competitors with a near-perfect run on the tough track. The car was driven by Tom Martin Sr., Tom Martin Jr., Tom Brown, and Brian Zaner. 647 laps and a total race time of 24:51:56:461 means that the team lost only 8 minutes, 3.539-seconds to pit stops over the course of the event. That’s pretty impressive for a 25 hour race.
“We started the race pretty well,” Martin Sr. said. “We fell back a little at the beginning and we just a kept a steady pace. The car was so well prepared by the team that we were able to run just a flawless race. Our competitors had a little trouble and here we are winners of our class. The only problem we had was a broken stud on one wheel. We were worried we would lose the others, so we replaced and kept going.”
The NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill event is held yearly at 2.58 mile, 15-turn Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California. There are six classes of race cars, with an eclectic mix of machines including a Porsche GT3, Mazda Miata, BMW 325, Acura RS-X, Honda Civic, Factory Five Cobra, Mazda RX-8, Chevrolet Camaro, and Subaru STi.
