Boss 302 Wins At 25hrs Of ThunderHill
The Luxury Don’t Crash Racing Team, with support from Winding Road Racing, recently scored a first-place finish in the E0 class at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill event, running in the Winding Road Racing Ford Mustang BOSS 302S. Not only did they score the class win, they also finished 7th overall in a huge field of 63 cars.
In the process, the BOSS 302S Mustang beat out a pair of E0-class BMW entries and a number of other competitors with a near-perfect run on the tough track. The car was driven by Tom Martin Sr., Tom Martin Jr., Tom Brown, and Brian Zaner. 647 laps and a total race time of 24:51:56:461 means that the team lost only 8 minutes, 3.539-seconds to pit stops over the course of the event. That’s pretty impressive for a 25 hour race.
“We started the race pretty well,” Martin Sr. said. “We fell back a little at the beginning and we just a kept a steady pace. The car was so well prepared by the team that we were able to run just a flawless race. Our competitors had a little trouble and here we are winners of our class. The only problem we had was a broken stud on one wheel. We were worried we would lose the others, so we replaced and kept going.”
The NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill event is held yearly at 2.58 mile, 15-turn Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California. There are six classes of race cars, with an eclectic mix of machines including a Porsche GT3, Mazda Miata, BMW 325, Acura RS-X, Honda Civic, Factory Five Cobra, Mazda RX-8, Chevrolet Camaro, and Subaru STi.
