New Short block engines are now available from Ford Racing, their newest release comes in the form of three new pushrod shortblocks for the Ford crowd. From 347 cubic inches to 363 cubic inches, all the way up to 427 cubic inches, they’ve got you covered with the latest in go-fast gear for your machine. Each one of the shortblocks is precision machined using the latest technologies, and each is also fully-balanced to ensure high-speed smoothness.
The three displacements are achieved using SCAT forged steel crankshafts and forged I-beam connecting rods along with Mahle forged pistons, and every engine is assembled in a Ford Racing BOSS engine block. The 347 and 363 cubic-inch displacement shortblocks are housed within the 8.2-deck block, while the 427-cube monster uses one of the 9.5-deck Windsor blocks to achieve its final displacement figure.
These shortblocks serve as the foundation for a number of Ford Racing’s crate engines, with the 347 making 415 horsepower as the D347SR sealed racing engine, the 363 puts out 500 horsepower as the Z363 crate engine, and the 427 spins the dyno to 535 horsepower as the Z427 crate piece.
By purchasing one of these foundations as a shortblock, you gain the ability to put your own heads, cam, intake, and oil pan atop the BOSS-blocked base and create your very own engine. With the correct supporting gear, these engines will fit into just about any Ford muscle car, street rod, Fox-body, or later-model Mustang and provide a quick way to get your machine up and running.
Ford has set the following pricing for these short-blocks, and when you consider what you get for the money, it’s not a bad deal at all.
Ford Racing 347 Shortblock – M-6009-347 MSRP $ 4,899
Ford Racing 363 Shortblock – M-6009-363 MSRP $ 4,999
Ford Racing 427 Shortblock – M-6009-427F MSRP $ 5,299

2008 Mustang GT Gets Ex Mark Martin Nascar Race Engine Installed
It happens to most of us, once you buy a performance car; you just want to get more power and even more performance out of your new ride. Well take a look at what happened to Marc Sorger after he bought his brand new Mustang GT in 2008 as his everyday street car. Like many enthusiasts he quickly started modifying his Mustang and before long it was supercharged with a blown 4.6-liter V-8 engine pushing out 724 horsepower at the wheels. It didn't take long for him to want to take his new baby to NASA HPDE track days but he quickly learned after about five laps or so that the engine would start to overheat loose power and start to get dangerously close to leaning out. It wasn't getting enough cool air to breathe properly with all that power producing so much heat.
So what do you do when you want to go all out racing with NASA American Iron? Forget fixing your engine and supercharger cooling issue, you just dump the engine and drop in an ex Mark Martin 358 cubic inch V-8 NASCAR Cup Car engine under the hood.
But you can't just drop a NASCAR race car engine in a Mustang and bolt up the stock powertrain. So Marc installed a TEX Racing T101A four-speed clutch less transmission and drive shaft from Martin's race car. The intake, cam, and carburetor have all been switched to make the car more road course friendly.
Whiteline Flatout provided their full suspension package, including the watts link and anti-dive kit while Marc switched out the rear axles and gears with a much needed racing differential, rear axles, and high ratio ring and pinion gears. Son Returns His Fathers Ford Mustang Mach 1 Back To Him After 24 Years
Fathers Day is fast approaching again and is actually June 16th 2013, so it is a little over a month away and it will be here before we know it. Rick Lookebill was a lucky Dad this year he was treated to an early fathers day gift from his son last week. Twenty four years ago Rick had to part ways with his first car, which was a 1972 Ford Mustang MACH 1. Over the years Rick had talked with his family of wanting to locate the car again and bring it back to Indiana again to the family home. His son and the rest of the family searched everywhere from the internet to auto trader magazines and even DMV records. They were really close a few years back in 1999 when they ran across it briefly in Clinton, Illinois, but their timing was off and it was sold before they got over to see it. Recently, however Rick had again shown a "spark" of interest in wanting to try and find the car again. His Son by way of the internet and some help from the previous owner in Chicago and local forums finally located it three weeks ago in Florida. However, all Rick knew was that his son had located it. His son knew the car should be returned to his Dad it belonged to no one but him and he deserved to have it back in his possession. So...he acted quickly and after some negotiation with the current owner managed to make a deal and bring the car back home to Indiana from Florida and put the keys back in the hands of his father once again where they belonged. Oddly enough...nothing has been done to the body of the vehicle since it left 24 years ago. Even the modifications Rick had made to the car (rear air shocks and pin striping) are all still the same! Rick had kept a spare key on his dresser all this time in the hopes of one day seeing his car again and now 24 years later that key still worked in the ignition!! Take a look at the family video its pretty special, this day, needless to say, was a GREAT day for Rick Lookebil and his family.
What are do you plan on doing for your father this year?
