First Impressions Of the New 2015 Mustang GT Convertible

The all-new 2015 Ford Mustang Convertible
What are your first impressions of the new 2015 Mustang GT convertible. Well there has been alot of publicity for the new 2015 Mustang GT set to be released later this year, but not alot of information or coverage on the new 2015 Mustang convertible. Mustang Convertibles have been very popular over the years and if you are someone who likes to enjoy fresh air and alot of sunshine then this new convertible is going to blow you away! Well maybe not quite as it has new innovations and make things a bit easier for you to drop your top like the easier, quicker and quieter roof operation, a more robust roof build for a coupe-like cabin noise, more trunk space, better visibility and reduced in-cabin buffeting. Creating the new Mustang convertible involved far more than just slicing the top off the fastback. The two cars were designed and engineered from the ground up, incorporating an array of visually subtle, but important, changes to make sure each stood on its own while meeting increased standards of quality, performance and refinement. The top release system has been completely redesigned with a single, center-mounted latch on the windshield frame instead of the dual latches of before. The driver can now release the roof without having to lean over into the passenger space, after which the top goes down fully automatically with the press of a button in approximately 8 seconds. For the first time on Mustang, every convertible roof gets a full fabric outer layer for the roof plus a full inner headliner to enclose the five-bow structure. Sandwiched in between these layers is a full 10-millimeter thick insulation pad that makes the convertible nearly as quiet inside with the top up as the fastback.

“A great deal of effort went into details such as the shape of the rear quarter windows so that they could drop completely out of sight when the top is down,” said Piaskowski. “The top system was carefully refined to prevent unsightly folds or ‘ears’ at the rear corners of the roof when it’s up.”

"Convertible tops and iconic sports cars like Mustang have always been a great pairing," said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer. "This is the best convertible we've ever built with a one-of-a-kind design that is instantly recognizable as Mustang and an outstanding all-around driving experience."
