What about gears? By Dr. Evil
All Gear Heads will agree that the way to improve that seat of the pants acceleration is a trip to the gear store. Swapping gears is probably one of the most sought after modifications that can be done to improve that straight line time or off the corner torque needed to motivate your horse.
Some of the more popular gears for the 5.0 are 3.55s and 3.73s for the standard 5 speed while the automatics seem to benefit more with a 3.73 or the old timer 3.90 gears that are fairly new to the 8.8 rear end market.
The 4.6 iron seems to like the 3.90 or 4.10 ratios while the V-6s that utilize the 7.5 ring gear love the 4.10s. Remember that it is recommended that installations should be performed by a qualified technician due to the fact that proper procedures and tooling must used to achieve correct pinion depth and backlash to guarantee smooth quiet operation.
