The benifits of installing a more powerful altrnator are numerous, higher output, more current in return giving you less drain on your battery.A new alterntor is almost a crucial addition once you enter the realm of a high output stereo systems, electrical fans and aftermarket ignition systems.
To complete the installation you'll need the following tools:
- 130A 3G alternator. Brothers part #F4PZ10346BRM
- 2" Grade 8 3/8 coarse thread bolts . (hardware store)
- Grade 8 nut for above bolt
- 2 washers for nut and bolt
- 10" lenght of 10 or 8 guage stranded-core electrical wire.
- Ford 3G alternator stator wire connector (Dealer item)
Prepping the car
- Disconnect the battery and remove the Serpentine belt
- Unplug the factory alternator connectors from the alternator.
- Unbolt and remove the factory alternator (2 bolts)
- Peel back/unravel plastic covering on factory alternator wiring harness
- Test fit the 3G alternator, slide in the bottom mounting ear and rotate into position.
- Mark the factory alternator bracket needing clearance.
- Clearance the alternator bracket by cutting/griding away the marked area with a die cutter or dremel.
- Secure the alternator using original bottom bolt and new 2" top nut, bolt and washers.
- Locate the point where the pair of MAIN wires ( black/orange) join and become one.

- Crimp and solder on screw-terminal.
- Install screw lug on main screw terminal.Once tight, slightly bend screw lug away from alternator housing.
- Cut stator wire 2" from factory oval plug. This frees the factory 3-prong spade connector which can be discared.
- Splice in new stator connector, solder, use heat shrink to insulate.
- Reconnect battery and immediately check voltage across terminal. Should read 12v.
- Connect voltmeter across battery terminals.
- With key off,voltage should read 12-12.6
- Turn off all accessories and turn key on. Battery light on dash should come on.And voltage should drop to between 11and 12v. If voltage drops below 10v recheck connections.
- Start car.Voltage should jump to above 13 volts.
- Bring engine to 2,000 rpm with all accessories off, voltage should be above 14 v
- With all accessories on voltage should read above 12.5v
